All major airlines such as Lufthansa, British Airways, Easyjet, Delta Airlines, Air France, Emirates, KLM and more fly to Venice airport.

Airport shuttle
The airport shuttle Alilaguna departs from Venice Marco Polo about every half hour, there are lines A and B, which take several, partly different destinations in Venice, Murano and Burano. The one way ticket costs 15,00 €, it costs 27,00 € back and forth. The shuttle operates thanks to radar also in the fog, which in Venice is not a rarity, as far as the view is at least 120 m. Public transport services
Public transport is essentially carried out by various boats. In addition to private water taxi and an airport shuttle to water there is a reliable scheduled service with the so-called vaporetto, the water buses. However, many interesting destinations can not be reached by boat. Only two means of transport remain: the left and the right foot!
Vaporetto
The ride with the water bus costs 7.50 €, no matter how far you travel, the ticket is valid for 75 minutes. There are also day tickets (20,00 €) as well as 3- and 7-day tickets (40,00 and 60,00 €) with which you can drive as often as you like. Depending on the line, the time of the year and the day, the Vaporettos will run approximately every 10 – 20 minutes. A night line runs hourly throughout the night.
Wassertaxi
Private water taxi services can be found all over Venice, they drive around the clock, the price is based on the travel time and amounts to 120, – € per hour for a maximum of 6 persons. You can also order / reserve it at the Centralino Taxi by calling +39 (0) 41 5222303 around the clock.
Venezia Unica Card
The City Pass “Venezia Unica Card” is a very practical thing for all visitors to Venice. You can order it already before the visit on the Internet and different duration tickets for the Vaporettos, but also admission tickets for museums, churches, etc. to load it and with only one map access to the most varied tourist offers get. The Venezia Unica Card, ordered on the Internet, can be picked up comfortably upon arrival at the airport or train station at the Venezia Unica office. Hotel Canaletto ***
Thousands of hotels and restaurants make the choice in Venice not easy. The hotel has been reserved mostly from home, so I’ve also made it. My choice with booking.com was on the Hotel Canaletto in the heart of Venice in the Sestiere (district) San Marco. Only 250 m from the Rialtobridge and St. Mark’s Square, it is the best yet quiet location.
This family-run hotel is located in the former residence of the famous Venetian painter Canaletto. It is decorated in the style of the 18th century, with stucco, fabric coverings on the walls and magnificent Muranoglas lamps. In addition, there are of course all modern amenities such as air conditioning / heating, TV, telephone, minibar, room safe and WLAN in all 38 rooms.
The front desk is staffed 24/7, the staff is very friendly and endeavored to satisfy every guests request. The personal provides any help needed during their stay there. Also the breakfast for the Mediterranean conditions is more than sumptuous and contains something for every taste, whether you prefer English, French, sweet or healthy breakfast

Restaurant recommendations
Da Mamo
The Da Mamo is a trattoria. It is tight, it is full, it is loud – and it is good! While in front of some restaurants in the neighborhood the waiters are at the doorstep to lure the guests, here the guests are queuing up in front of Da Mamo to wait for a vacated place. This will have its reason! So I also wait in December 10 minutes to get a place allocated. I do not want to know what’s going on in the high season …
But despite the full house and the hustle and bustle, the staff is very friendly. The amuse gueule is just as fast as everything else and the food is very delicious (pizza, tiramisu etc.).

Ai Barbacani
I do not want to say that the “ai Barbacani” is an insider tip in Venice. It is too central in the district of San Marco, but it is nevertheless in a small side street so far from the great tourist streams. Thus not every Venice visitor automatically stumbles in this beautiful, small, old building. Very tastefully furnished with many old little things, it creates a cozy atmosphere in the lively city.
The food (Bressaola with rocket, scaloppine, rosemary potatoes, etc.) was just as outstanding as the relaxed ambience and the hospitable service. It is certainly an address, in the more lively times a reservation is necessary (I was there in December). I’ll be back!

High water – Aqua Alta
In addition to light and weather, there is also a special feature in Venice that should be respected in the journey and the photo tours. Due to various circumstances occasionally Venice is under water, usually in autumn and winter. The flood, called Aqua Alta, places footpaths and places more or less under water. In these cases, the city is setting up the “Passerelles”, wooden bridges on which one can reach its way with dry feet. However, they are not everywhere, so a pair of rubber boots are useful when flooding threatens.
A 3-day forecast given by the city of Venice is therefore perhaps very useful. If the water level exceeds 90 cm above normal, it starts to become critical and you have the chance to get wet feet.
If the water level is 100 cm above the normal level, the water is about 20 cm high on the San Marco square, the lowest point of the city. Aqua Alta alarm is emitted from a height of 110 cm, then about 10% of the roads and paths are under water. At 125 cm high, half the city is already affected and from 140 cm water level 90% of the city is under water and the case of emergency is called out.
